This article examines the stylistic functions of lexical expressive means in English fiction, focusing on how authors use devices such as metaphor, simile, epithet, irony, hyperbole, and personification to create aesthetic effects, convey emotions, and shape reader perception. The study traces the development of stylistic theory from classical rhetoric to modern linguistic stylistics, highlighting the role of lexical choices in literary communication. By analyzing excerpts from works of prominent English and American writers, the article demonstrates how expressive means contribute to character portrayal, narrative tone, and thematic depth. The research emphasizes the shift from viewing stylistic devices as mere ornamentation to recognizing them as essential tools for meaning-making in fiction. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the interplay between lexis and style in English literary texts.
