Social media has had an impact on society in many ways during the past two decades. It has changed the way public discourse and communication occurs. Numerous studies in the past have indicated that governments need to increase transparency, the policy of social media communication and general responsiveness to achieve a high level of citizen engagement and satisfaction. Therefore, open communication, participatory engagement strategies and transparency need to be aimed.
