Abstract

This article explores the core principles of cognitive science and cognitive linguistics, highlighting the intrinsic link between language, thought, and culture. It provides an overview of how cognitive science investigates knowledge formation, mental processes, and adaptation, then delves into the ways cognitive linguistics examines the role of language in conceptualizing and categorizing the world. Special attention is given to visual cognitive verbs in Uzbek and English, which express both the act of seeing and the cognitive processes stemming from perception. By comparing the morphological and syntactic properties of these verbs, the study reveals their similarities and differences across the two languages. It also underscores the importance of cultural context in shaping linguistic usage, demonstrating how language functions not only as a communicative tool but also as a fundamental structure reflecting human cognition.
