EARLY PREVENTION OF SECONDARY COMPLICATIONS AND THE ROLE OF ANTIOXIDANT THERAPY AFTER THROMBOLYSIS AND THROMBOEXTRACTION IN ACUTE CEREBROVASCULAR ACCIDENT (ACVA)

Abstract:

Acute cerebrovascular accident (ACVA) remains one of the leading causes of disability and mortality worldwide. Despite the active implementation of modern reperfusion methods — thrombolysis and thrombectomy — the problem of secondary complications in the early post-stroke period remains relevant. These complications are caused by a cascade of ischemic and reperfusion injury, activation of free radical processes, and pronounced oxidative stress leading to secondary damage of neurons, endothelium, and the blood-brain barrier. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of early antioxidant therapy in the comprehensive prevention of secondary complications in patients who underwent thrombolysis and thrombectomy for ischemic stroke. The study included 120 patients aged 45–78 years, hospitalized in the neurological department with a diagnosis of ischemic stroke in the middle cerebral artery basin.
