THE ROLE OF FOOD PRODUCTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DENTAL DISEASES

Abstract:

Dental diseases, including caries and periodontal disease, remain a pressing medical and social problem worldwide. One of the key modifiable risk factors is diet. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of various food products on the development of dental diseases in adult patients. A cross-sectional study involving 100 people aged 18-65 years was conducted, including a questionnaire on the frequency of food consumption and a clinical assessment of the oral health using the DMFT, GI, and CPITN indices. A statistically significant positive relationship was established between frequent consumption of simple sugars and the level of caries (p < 0.001). Regular consumption of acidic beverages is associated with increased enamel erosion (p < 0.01). At the same time, foods rich in calcium, phosphates, and dietary fiber demonstrated a protective effect, helping to reduce caries and inflammatory gum diseases (p < 0.05). The obtained results confirm the significant role of dietary factors in the pathogenesis of dental diseases and emphasize the need to develop preventive recommendations aimed at dietary adjustments
