Abstract

Bile acids (BAs) have long been considered exclusively as agents involved in digestion and absorption of fats. However, recent scientific studies have revealed new aspects of their biological activity. Bile acids are now recognized as a novel class of steroid hormones that play a significant role in regulating the body's energy expenditure and influencing metabolic processes, obesity development, and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). This review comprehensively examines the mechanisms of action of bile acids, their impact on energy metabolism, and their potential clinical applications.
