THE ROLE OF AUTONOMIC NERVOUS REGULATION IN THE PATHOGENESIS AND COURSE OF GLAUCOMA

Main Article Content

Аннотация:

Glaucoma is a chronic progressive disease of the optic nerve, in the pathogenesis of which, in addition to elevated intraocular pressure, disturbances of autonomic nervous regulation play a significant role. An imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) leads to vascular tone disorders, impaired microcirculation, and dysregulation of ocular blood flow autoregulation. These changes directly affect the trophic support of the optic nerve, reduce the resistance of its fibers to ischemic damage, and determine the rate of progression of glaucomatous optic neuropathy.
