THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DEBATE TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING SPEAKING

Abstract:
This article explores the effectiveness of debate as a method for teaching speaking skills in language learning classrooms. It highlights the importance of speaking as a critical component of communication and examines how debates enhance fluency, confidence, and the use of authentic language. The article discusses the benefits of debates, such as their ability to address pronunciation, coherence, and appropriate language use, while also addressing potential challenges like student anxiety and unequal participation. Strategies for successful implementation, including structured formats, language support, and reflective activities, are provided. The findings suggest that debates significantly improve speaking skills and prepare learners for real-world communication.
