AUTHOR-FOR-WORK METONYMY AS A PRAGMATIC AND CULTURAL PHENOMENON IN ENGLISH, UZBEK, AND KARAKALPAK
Main Article Content
Аннотация:
This paper examines author-for-work metonymy in the discourse of the English, Uzbek, and Karakalpak languages. In particular, the metonymy in question involves the use of an author’s name to refer to not the individual but their literary creations or cultural significance. In consideration of the cognitive linguistic school of thought as well as the pragmatic approaches suggested by Barcelona [1], the paper aims to show the universality of the metonymy in question as a culturally facilitated tool. In particular, the paper illustrates how the pragmatic expression of the metonym in question differs from one culture to the next.
