CULTURAL TABOOS IN INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION

This article explores the impact of cultural taboos on intercultural communication, emphasizing their role in creating barriers and misunderstandings in interactions between individuals from different cultural backgrounds. It provides a detailed analysis of cultural taboos, such as those related to language, behavior, religion, politics, and gender, which vary significantly across cultures. The article reviews existing literature on intercultural communication and highlights the challenges of navigating cultural taboos, especially when they are implicit and unspoken. Through interviews and comparative analysis of multiple cultures, the study identifies common taboos and suggests strategies for overcoming these communication obstacles. The importance of intercultural competence—such as cultural sensitivity, empathy, and adaptability—is discussed as a vital tool for effective communication. The article concludes that respecting and understanding cultural taboos is essential for fostering successful intercultural relationships in a globalized world.
