Abstract:

This article examines the peculiarities of traditional (ritual) songs used in the epic “Alpamıs,” which is a heroic epic of the Karakalpak people. The content, poetic significance, and functions of lamentation songs (joqlaw), farewell songs (sıńsıw), and wedding songs (toy jırları), which are widely encountered in the epic, are analyzed. Through these songs, the national worldview and moral values of the Karakalpak people are revealed. Based on the examples presented in the article, the role and importance of traditional ritual songs in Karakalpak folklore are demonstrated.
