This article provides an in-depth examination of the legal challenges and regulatory approaches concerning data protection and privacy in autonomous vehicles (AVs) within the European Union. Using the IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) method, it explores the intricate balance between enabling AV technology and safeguarding individual privacy rights. The study analyzes the application of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant EU laws to AV data processing, discusses key guidelines from EU bodies, and identifies ongoing challenges in this rapidly evolving field.
