Translation is not merely a linguistic process but also a cultural act that involves transferring meaning between different social and cultural systems. One of the most significant problems in translation studies is achieving cultural equivalence between the source language and the target language. Translators frequently encounter difficulties when cultural concepts, idioms, or social realities present in the source text do not exist in the target culture. This article examines cultural equivalence as a central issue in translation theory by analyzing theoretical perspectives, practical translation challenges, and strategies used to overcome cultural gaps. The study argues that successful translation depends not on literal accuracy but on functional and cultural adaptation that preserves communicative meaning.
