THE ROLE OF CODE-SWITCHING IN UZBEK-ENGLISH BILINGUAL CLASSROOMS

Code-switching, the practice of alternating between two or more languages in communication, is a widespread phenomenon in bilingual education settings. In Uzbek-English bilingual classrooms, code-switching serves various instructional, cognitive, and social purposes. This article discusses how code-switching is used by both teachers and students to aid language learning, improve classroom interaction, and support identity development. It also critically evaluates the potential drawbacks and offers suggestions for optimal implementation in the classroom.
