Аннотация:

The theoretical foundations of the article system in Modern English is focused on the semantic, grammatical, and pragmatic principles that govern the use of the, a/an, and the zero article. Although English articles are small formal markers, they encode complex distinctions related to definiteness, specificity, generic reference, and discourse structure. The study reviews major theoretical approaches traditional grammar, structural linguistics, and modern semantic-pragmatic models and shows how articles contribute to meaning-making in real communication. The aim of the article is to provide a clear, systematic explanation of the article system with examples from contemporary English usage.
