THE IMPACT OF STRESS ON LEARNING ABILITY

Main Article Content

Abstract:

Stress is a common psychological and physiological response to challenging or demanding situations, and it significantly affects cognitive functions essential for learning. This article explores the multifaceted relationship between stress and learning ability, focusing on how acute and chronic stress influence memory, attention, and motivation. Research indicates that while moderate levels of stress may temporarily enhance alertness and performance, prolonged or high stress can impair brain function especially in areas related to information processing, such as the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. The paper also examines the role of individual differences, such as age, personality traits, and coping mechanisms, in moderating stress effects on learning outcomes. Finally, strategies for managing stress such as mindfulness, time management, and supportive learning environments are discussed to foster more effective educational experiences. Understanding the impact of stress on learning is crucial for educators, students, and policymakers seeking to improve academic performance and mental well-being in educational settings.
