THE ROLE OF PAREMIOLOGICAL DICTIONARIES IN DESCRIBING THE NATIONAL PICTURE OF THE WORLD
##plugins.themes.bootstrap3.article.main##
Abstrak:
The article examines the crucial role of paremiological dictionaries in describing and interpreting the national picture of the world. Paremias—proverbs and sayings—are viewed as culturally significant linguistic units that encapsulate collective experience, ethical norms, and worldview patterns of a people. The author emphasizes that paremiological dictionaries systematically organize this cultural heritage, preserve it across generations, and serve as an important tool for linguistic, ethnocultural, and cognitive research. Through examples from English and Karakalpak languages, the article demonstrates how paremiological dictionaries reveal culturally marked concepts such as diligence, collectivism, and moral causality. Comparative analysis of proverbs allows researchers to identify both universal values and culturally specific features of different ethnic groups. The study concludes that paremiological dictionaries support translation practice, foster intercultural dialogue, and contribute to the understanding of language as a reflection of culture and mentality.
