WORD FORMATION PROCESSES IN ENGLISH AND TURKISH LANGUAGES

Main Article Content

Аннотация:

Word formation plays a key role in linguistic structure and lexical growth. This study compares English and Turkish, focusing on how each language forms new words. English, as an analytic language, uses derivation, compounding, blending, and clipping, while Turkish, as an agglutinative language, relies mainly on suffixation and vowel harmony. The analysis highlights that English word creation is flexible and often irregular, whereas Turkish shows systematic and transparent morphological patterns. Historical and sociolinguistic factors have also shaped innovation in both languages.
