ALISHER NAVOI'S EPISTLE "LISON UT-TAYR" AND MINIATURES USED ON IT

The article provides an analysis of Alisher Navoi’s poem “Lison ut-tair” (The Language of the Birds) and a rare copy of this work, executed in 960/1553 in Bukhara, stored in the National Library of Paris (Suppl. Turk 996.), as well as miniatures done for the poem. Along with this, a comparative analysis of the text of the stories about Sheikh Sanan, the Shah and the Dervish, the miser, the miser from Basra, Asma’i and the beloved and the plots of miniatures made for these stories was carried out. Discussions are given about the symbolic interpretation of images in miniatures through the color, landscape and other elements used by miniaturists, and clarifications to some erroneous ideas about miniatures are made.

As a representative of the literary environment of the 15th century, Alisher Navoi was a creator who well understood the literary demands and needs of his time and was able to respond to them appropriately, enriching the literary tradition of his time and developing it to a high level. Navoi’s experience in the field of epic poetry can be seen in the epic poem “Layli and Majnun”.
