THE ETYMOLOGY OF HEALTH: PHILOSOPHICAL REFLECTIONS ON THE ORIGINS OF THE HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PARADIGM

The contemporary paradigm of a healthy lifestyle is widely presented as a scientifically grounded and universally valid framework for human well-being. However, its conceptual origins and philosophical presuppositions are rarely examined. This article offers an etymological and philosophical analysis of the concept of health in order to uncover the foundational meanings that have shaped the modern healthy lifestyle paradigm. By tracing the linguistic roots of health in ancient Greek, Latin, and early European traditions, and by situating these meanings within classical and medieval philosophical thought, the study demonstrates that health originally functioned as a holistic and value-laden concept. The article argues that contemporary interpretations often abstract health from its ethical and anthropological foundations, transforming it into a normative and instrumental ideal. Reconstructing the etymological origins of health enables a more critical and philosophically grounded understanding of healthy lifestyle discourse as a cultural and moral construct rather than a purely technical model.

CULTURAL CONCEPTS OF HEALTH: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF FRENCH, ENGLISH, AND RUSSIAN HEALTH BELIEFS THROUGH HUMOR

This study employs humor and anecdotal evidence to investigate cultural perspectives on health and medical procedures in France, England, and Russia. The study investigates how deeply ingrained cultural ideas about sickness, treatment choices, and healthcare systems are reflected in national jokes, colloquial idioms, and popular tales using a qualitative content analysis technique. The analysis shows clear trends: English emphasis on bowel regularity, stoicism, and natural remedies; French obsession with liver dysfunction and preference for suppositories and mineral water; and Russian attitudes marked by disregard for preventive care, celebration culture at odds with health consciousness, and notable differences between public and private healthcare. The results show that humor is a useful cultural artifact for comprehending beliefs and actions connected to health. This comparative study contributes to cross-cultural health communication research and highlights the importance of cultural competence in medical practice and public health interventions.

“HEALTH AS A CULTURAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL CONSTRUCT: AN ETYMOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE”

Health is commonly treated in contemporary discourse as a biomedical and value-neutral category defined by scientific criteria and measurable indicators. This article challenges such reductionist interpretations by approaching health as a cultural and philosophical construct shaped by historical meanings, ethical assumptions, and anthropological models of the human being. Using an etymological perspective, the study traces the linguistic origins of the concept of health in ancient Greek, Latin, and early European traditions, demonstrating that health was originally associated with wholeness, harmony, moral order, and social stability. The article argues that these foundational meanings reveal health as a normative and culturally mediated concept rather than a purely technical one. By reconstructing the etymological and philosophical layers of health, the study provides a critical framework for understanding contemporary healthy lifestyle discourse and its ethical implications.

THE CURRENT STATE OF THE PROBLEM OF ASSESSING THE RISK TO POPULATION HEALTH ASSOCIATED WITH AIR POLLUTION

Risk assessment methodology is currently a widely recognized and essential tool for characterizing the impact of environmental factors on public health and for making management decisions. However, despite the large number of studies assessing health risks from chronic (long-term) exposure to atmospheric pollution, the problem of characterizing short-term (acute) exposures remains insufficiently addressed. In recent years, the issue of protecting human health from acute exposure to chemicals (CS) has become particularly pressing due to the increased likelihood of accidents and disasters at potentially hazardous sites, the threat of terrorist attacks, the consequences of natural hazards, and the emergence of numerous clinical and epidemiological studies demonstrating the high risk to human health from short-term exposure to elevated levels of air pollution. Risk assessments have been conducted in several regions of Uzbekistan. However, a comparative assessment of chronic and acute health risks for the population of Tashkent, the largest city, has not been conducted. Some studies have focused on the hygienic assessment of certain urban planning decisions or risk characterization in individual administrative districts. Therefore, research assessing the public health risks from exposure to chemical pollutants in the air is a pressing task in organizing and implementing social and hygienic monitoring.

GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS IN CHILDREN

Environmental pollution has emerged as one of the most critical determinants of global health, particularly affecting maternal and fetal outcomes. In recent decades, the increasing incidence of congenital heart defects (CHDs) in newborns has been strongly associated with environmental risk factors such as air pollution, exposure to heavy metals, pesticides, and maternal lifestyle changes. This paper investigates the relationship between environmental determinants and the pathogenesis of CHDs, emphasizing the growing burden in developing countries. The study reviews international and national data, identifying gaps in environmental health regulation and maternal healthcare policies. Preventive measures—including enhanced air quality control, maternal health education, and prenatal screening—are discussed as essential components of an integrated global strategy. The findings underline the urgent need for intersectoral collaboration between environmental, public health, and policy-making institutions to protect future generations from environmentally induced congenital heart diseases.

VIRAL HEPATITIS DISEASE AND ITS SPREAD AMONG THE POPULATION. THE EXAMPLE OF RISHTAN DISTRICT

In fact, viral hepatitis is one of the serious health problems of people. Because 500 million people in the world are infected with hepatovirus, and 80% of them do not have the opportunity to be examined and treated. Viral hepatitis A takes an important place among them. The fact that this disease is widespread among children, who are our future heirs, shows that it is necessary to deeply study not only the methods of treatment of this disease, but also the causes of its origin. Viral hepatitis A disease is becoming an important socio-economic problem today. A lot of research is being conducted all over the world, including in Uzbekistan, to study viral hepatitis A. However, despite research, spreading rate of disease among children is increasing significantly. Hepatitis A is an acute disorder that spread by fecal-oral agents and is often followed by a relapse for a few weeks. It is the causative agent of infectious hepatitis. Although children are more likely to contract hepatitis A than adults, the symptoms are usually much milder than those of adults. 90% of the childhood infections are asymptomic.
