PERSUASION STRATEGIES IN LAWYER'S SPEECH: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

This thesis presents a comparative analysis of persuasive rhetorical strategies employed in lawyer’s speech in English and Uzbek languages. Based on Aristotle’s concepts of logos, ethos, and pathos, the study investigates the differences and similarities within the juridical discourse of both languages. While English juridical speech prioritizes a formal, logical, and evidence-based approach, Uzbek juridical rhetoric tends to emphasize emotional influence, traditional forms of address, and cultural values. The research provides a practical basis for improving juridical rhetorical competence and enhancing effective cross-linguistic juridical communication.

THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS OF CULTURAL INFLUENCE ON ACADEMIC WRITING

Academic writing, while often perceived as a neutral and standardized form of communication, is significantly shaped by cultural conventions and expectations. This paper explores the theoretical foundations of how culture influences academic writing, drawing from intercultural rhetoric, contrastive rhetoric, and discourse communities. Through a qualitative literature-based method, the study identifies key theoretical perspectives and illustrates how cultural values manifest in writing structures, argumentation styles, and citation practices. Findings suggest that awareness of cultural influence is essential for effective academic writing, especially in increasingly globalized educational contexts.

A STUDY OF STYLE IN PRINT MAGAZINES VERSUS SCIENCE WEBSITES TO DETERMINE HOW SCIENCE WRITING CHANGES

The migration of science journalism from physical print to digital platforms has precipitated a fundamental shift in stylistic norms. This article examines the profound differences between the stylistic architecture of legacy print magazines (e.g., National Geographic, Scientific American) and contemporary digital science hubs (e.g., Wired, Live Science, Ars Technica). By systematically analyzing structure, syntax, and audience engagement through the lens of media theory and classical rhetoric, we determine that science writing has fundamentally evolved from a linear, narrative-focused discipline rooted in institutional ethos into a modular, hyperlinked, and search-optimized format driven by the attention economy. The change represents a shift from interpretation to exploration, redefining both the role of the science writer and the epistemological relationship with the reader.

The article demonstrates how metaphor and repetition along with irony and personification and simile operate across storytelling for instruction as well as everyday conversation and literary content by using theories from discourse pragmatics and cognitive linguistics. The discussion shows how stylistic devices simultaneously support mental processes and improve person-to-person message delivery through numerous real-world examples.

GENDER, TONE, AND INTERTEXTUALITY IN UZBEK AND ENGLISH ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP DIRECTIVES

This study looks at directive speech acts employed by university administrators in Uzbekistan and English-speaking countries, going deeper into contextual, gendered, and strategic elements beyond syntactic and lexical realization. While directives fulfil institutional functions, their structure and wording reflect subtle sociocultural norms, leadership ethos, and institutional expectations. This paper uses speech act theory, politeness theory, and leadership discourse frameworks to examine not just modality and directness, but also prosodic signals, intertextuality, genre sensitivity, and leadership positioning in written and spoken academic communication. The findings point to modest distinctions in communicative authority, rhetorical style, and interpersonal dynamics that influence how rectors, deans, and chairs lead through language. It also takes into account gender patterns and emotional tone while issuing orders. The findings have implications for intercultural competency, leadership development, and applied discourse pedagogy in higher education.

VICTORIAN MORALITY AND HYPOCRISY IN THE WORKS OF CHARLES DICKENS

This article examines the concept of Victorian morality and hypocrisy as represented in the major works of Charles Dickens. Although Victorian society emphasized respectability, discipline, and moral responsibility, Dickens consistently exposed the gap between declared ethical ideals and social reality. Focusing on Oliver Twist, Hard Times, and Bleak House, the article demonstrates how Dickens critiques charitable institutions, utilitarian education, and the legal system for masking injustice behind moral rhetoric. The study argues that Dickens promotes a humanistic moral framework based on empathy, accountability, and institutional reform [1, p. 42].

THE ROLE OF ENGAGEMENT TALK AND REFERENCES IN SCIENCE DOCUMENTARIES

Science documentaries — those distributed on streaming platforms, public television, and educational channels — are crucial for widespread public education. However, their success hinges on two major communicative tools: Engagement Talk and Reference Density. Engagement Talk refers to linguistic devices used by narrators to connect directly with the audience (e.g., questions, imperatives, first-person plural pronouns). Reference Density refers to the frequency and type of citation (e.g., visual text, expert interview, archival footage) used to ground scientific claims. This article explores the linguistic structure of these communicative techniques and examines their critical role in maintaining audience retention and cognitive processing. Understanding these rhetorical strategies not only improves documentary scriptwriting but also helps bridge the gap between complex scientific concepts and successful public comprehension, ultimately leading to stronger educational impact.
