POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC RELATIONS BETWEEN UZBEKISTAN AND THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

The research topics are determined both by the general trend of activation of integration processes in the CIS, and by strengthening bilateral cooperation  Russia and Uzbekistan. The interstate dialogue between the two countries has not always been formed in a positive friendly way. Taking into account the priority nature of the development of the post-Soviet space, both states express a firm position on overcoming the difficulties of the modern period, solving state tasks and, in general, strengthening the strategic Russian-Uzbek dialogue. At the same time, it is stated that it is necessary to expand the interstate dialogue at the expense of new areas, such as military-technical, trade-economic, humanitarian and cultural industries. Special attention is paid to the period after 2016 d, when there was a change of power in the Republic of Uzbekistan and there were certain changes in its foreign policy.

THE MEDIEVAL ROMANCE AND THE FOLK BALLAD: A DIALOGUE OF COURTLY AND POPULAR CULTURE IN THE MIDDLE ENGLISH PERIOD

This study conducts a comparative analysis of two dominant narrative forms of the Middle English period: the courtly romance and the folk ballad. By examining their distinct aesthetic principles, social milieux, and thematic concerns, the research explores the dynamic dialogue between aristocratic and popular culture. The investigation argues that while romances, such as those of the Arthurian cycle, consciously propagated chivalric ideology for an elite audience, ballads gave voice to the communal values, tragedies, and supernatural beliefs of the common folk. The analysis further reveals how shared narratives, like the tale of Tristram, were transformed across this cultural divide, demonstrating that together, these genres forged a layered yet interconnected mythological consciousness for medieval England.

THE ROLE OF SOMATIC IDIOMS IN CHARACTER SPEECH IN GERMAN NOVELS

This article examines the role of somatic idioms in character speech in German novels, highlighting their significance in characterization, emotional intensification, and socio-communicative interaction. Somatic idioms, understood as idiomatic expressions involving body parts, are deeply rooted in embodied cognition and cultural metaphors. Drawing on examples from works such as Thomas Mann’s Buddenbrooks, Alfred Döblin’s Berlin Alexanderplatz, Erich Maria Remarque’s Arc de Triomphe, and Günter Grass’s Die Blechtrommel, the study demonstrates how these idioms reflect social class distinctions, intensify psychological portrayal, and enrich dialogue with irony and humor. The findings suggest that somatic idioms serve not only as linguistic ornaments but also as powerful tools that make character speech more authentic, emotionally charged, and culturally grounded.

INTERTEXTUALITY AND IRONY IN POSTMODERN BRITISH FICTION

This article examines the interrelation of intertextuality and irony as defining features of postmodern British fiction. Postmodern writers challenge the traditional concepts of authorship, originality, and narrative reliability by constructing texts that refer to and reinterpret previous literary and cultural works. Intertextuality serves as a means of establishing dialogue between texts and historical contexts, while irony functions as a critical and self-reflective device that exposes contradictions within language and ideology. Through the analysis of works by John Fowles, Julian Barnes, Jeanette Winterson, Martin Amis, and Ian McEwan, the study reveals how these techniques contribute to the creation of a multi-layered, self-conscious narrative structure. The article argues that the combination of intertextuality and irony not only defines the aesthetic nature of postmodern fiction but also reflects the broader philosophical skepticism characteristic of postmodern thought.

THE IMPORTANCE OF FIXED EXPRESSIONS IN ORAL SPONTANEITY

The study of spontaneous speech has become increasingly important in the field of linguistics, particularly in the realm of language processing and artificial intelligence. As we strive to create more realistic and engaging dialogue systems, understand the nuances of human communication, and improve the accuracy of speech recognition and machine translation, capturing the complexities of spontaneous speech becomes crucial. One key aspect of this challenge lies in recognizing and annotating fixed expressions, those seemingly “frozen” phrases or chunks of language that often deviate from the typical patterns of individual words. This paper explores the significance of fixed expressions in the context of oral spontaneity annotation, arguing that their inclusion is not merely a stylistic choice, but a necessary step towards achieving more accurate and insightful representations of human language.

TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS OF USING FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT TO DEVELOP SPEAKING COMPETENCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS

This study examines the attitudes and practices of EFL teachers in Uzbekistan regarding the use of formative assessment to improve students’ speaking skills. The research explores how teachers implement oral feedback, dialogue journals, and peer evaluation in secondary school classrooms. A mixed-method approach was applied using surveys and semi-structured interviews with 25 English teachers. The results show that while most teachers recognize the value of formative assessment for enhancing speaking competence, challenges such as large class sizes, time constraints, and lack of professional training hinder its consistent application. The study concludes with recommendations for improving teacher training and institutional support for formative assessment practices.
